“Gaetano”

Statuario Marble - 50x80x30cm

Gaetano represents a significant milestone in my work as my first formal study of a child. This piece depicts our firstborn son, Guy, captured in the profound stillness of sleep.

The sculpture shows him resting upon a soft pillow, yet the entire form remains partially embedded within the original block of stone. This intentional "emergence" suggests the beginning of a life story—a soul coming into being from the raw material of nature.

By contrasting the weight and permanence of the stone with the delicate, ephemeral image of a sleeping infant, the work explores the transition from the inanimate to the living. It serves as both a technical exploration of form and a father's tribute to the quiet gravity of a new life.
