Innocence Lost

2022

Statuario Marble - 50x16x45cm

This sculpture began as an intimate study of the artist’s thirteen-year-old son, Guy. However, as the Homeless Project evolved, the piece took on a broader, more urgent significance. By including this portrait in the exhibition, the work serves as a poignant reminder of the vulnerability of youth in America today.

While the bust captures the specific features of one child, it represents a staggering reality: an estimated 2.5 million children in the United States currently experience homelessness. Even more invisible are the "unaccompanied youth" between the ages of 13 and 25, a population whose numbers now exceed those of homeless children in families. In this context, Guy is no longer just a personal study; he becomes a face for the millions of displaced young people navigating a world without the safety of a home.
