Rosa del Portogallo Marble - 40x60x10cm

“Autumn Leaf”

Autumn Leaf is a study of the hidden life within the cycles of nature. The piece was inspired by a dried sycamore leaf I found, where the natural structure of the central spine bore a striking resemblance to a human figure.

I carved the sculpture from a unique, semitransparent pink marble from Portugal. The stone is rendered with such extreme thinness that it allows light to pass through, mimicking the fragile quality of a fallen leaf. The natural darker veins within the Portuguese marble are intentionally aligned to look like a network of capillaries, suggesting a living, breathing connection between the human form and the botanical world.

By merging the "spine" of the leaf with the spine of a human, the work explores the oneness of all living things. It serves as a poetic reminder that even in the "autumn" of life, there is a constant, quiet process of being and becoming.
